Nightscape Photography Course

Aimed at the beginner to intermediate photographer who understands the basic use of their camera and wants to progress to taking shots in the dark. The course comprises 3-days of tuition which is structured as 2 hours of instruction during the day followed by 3 hours of practical night time photography from our roof top observation terrace or at a dark sky site as weather dictates.

Equipment needed – a long exposure capable camera e.g. DSLR, a tripod, laptop for processing images. An intervalometer is recommended but not essential. Equipment can be hired for a small charge.

Image processing will be taught on Adobe Lightroom (software not provided).

Nightscapes, star trails and time lapse are covered. Transport to dark sky locations and refreshments included.

Residential option includes 7 nights B&B accommodation at Casa Zaguan, airport transfers, use of on-site telescopes and astro-viewing terrace, 3-course evening meals at a choice of local restaurants.

The non-residential course will take place at your hotel/apartment or other suitable venue local to where you are staying.

Planetary - Jupiter and Io

A specialist photography course aimed at astronomers who want to capture what they can see through a telescope. We have a number of telescopes suited to astrophotography e.g. Celestron C9.25 SCT (f10, f7 and superfast Hyperstar f2.3); Skywatcher 200p Newtonian (f5); 71mm astrograph refractor (f4.9) TS Imaging Star 71; 300mm GOTO dobsonian (f4.9)

Cameras include an APS-C sized QHY8L cooled CCD camera, a ZWO ASI 224MC planetary/deep sky cooled CMOS camera and Canon 1100D DSLRs. Of course you are welcome to bring and use your own camera with our telescopes (including DSLRs) subject to having the appropriate adapter. Please check at the time of booking if this is a requirement. We recommend bringing your own laptop to practice processing your images on but this is not essential.

Some experience of using telescopes and photography is an advantage but not essential as we will tailor our tuition to match your experience. The course comprises 3-days of tuition with astro-photographer Simon Rowland which is structured as 2 hours of instruction during the day followed by 3 hours of practical night time photography from our roof top observation terrace or at a dark sky site as weather dictates. Tuition includes camera and telescope setup, how to focus, guided tracking, capture software and how to process your images. Image processing will be taught on Deep Sky Stacker; Autostakkert!3; Registax6; Gimp2; Pixinsight and Adobe Lightroom.
